VEGAN FOR THE ANIMALS, your health and the planet.

Lets Talk about "free range," "organic," "cage free," "grass fed" etc..

Labels such as "Cage Free," "Free Range," "Humane Certified," "Grass Fed," "Organic," and "Local" make it seem like those who are willing to pay a higher price can enjoy eggs, dairy, and meat from small-scale "humane" farms that treat animals with compassion and respect. nope and nope
But is the public being misled? yes

Chickens

Getting your eggs from the Free Range Farms? Here is what they dont tell you.
  • 2 year life span in the egg industry
  • Chickens left alone would produce eggs twice to four times a year not lay every day
  • Male chicks are ground up alive at a few days old or gassed, they are waste product.
  • Free range hens still have their beaks cut which is very sensitive part and a lot die from this
  • They still end up in the slaughter house, where they are hung upside down waiting to have their throats slit.
  • Free range means they are not in cages but in barns that they walk around in their filthy waste.
  • Images you see of chickens roaming green pastures is a fallacy, chickens waste is toxic and kills the grass so they dont let them out daily, maybe once a month to take picture for the lovely packet you are about to buy.

Human domestication and exploitation of chickens is one of the most violent chapters in all our history of animal abuse.
Chickens were domesticated for "cockfighting," and for consumption of their flesh and eggs, the latter of which entailed aggressive selective breeding to turn chickens into birds who lay not 12 to 20 eggs per year as they initially did (laying only once or twice a year, during breeding season), but who instead lay 250 to 350 eggs per year, to meet human demand.

Our Frankensteinian genetic manipulation of these birds' reproductive systems in order to coerce their overproduction of eggs means that even the "happiest" hens endure a host of reproductive diseases and disorders that will end up killing most of them far earlier than is natural.

But setting aside the reproductive illnesses: consuming eggs from "backyard hens," whose debased status as property (something to be owned) and abnormal amount of egg-laying are a direct result of this long history of violence, does not erase the initial injustice; rather it benefits from it. Consuming eggs from "happy hens" is thus not a rejection, but rather an endorsement of the exploitative history and mentality that brought these animals here in the first place.

We have written more on this, and on the many hidden harms of consuming eggs from even the happiest hens, here: http://freefromharm.org/eggs-what-are-you-really-eating/

Organic Pig Farms

"Oh but the bacon I buy is from an organic farm they have a lovely life"
Teeth are cut with no anesthetic
Testicles are ripped from them with no anesthetic
Organic means that when the animal is sick they are not given antibiotics as then they wouldn't be classed as organic so they are left to suffer.

Grass Fed Cattle

Females are forcibly impregnated to produce a calf which is taken so we can drink their milk.
Male Calfs are of no use and are take if not within hours, days after being born and sent to slaughter.
